And it has been true as plans for a new highway on the east side of Rocky Flats progressed.īut members of the Broomfield City Council late last month committed what, when it comes to Rocky Flats, was a rare act of official wisdom when due to safety concerns they voted to withdraw Broomfield’s participation in the highway project. That was true when federal officials opened much of the site, now a national wildlife refuge, to public recreation. Some government officials refuse to acknowledge the remaining hazards at Rocky Flats, the former nuclear weapons plant south of Boulder. ![]()
